Blockchain technology review from the perspective of a data architect, evolution, internal architecture, and caveats.
Category: FinTech
FinTech (abbreviation for Financial Technology) is an area within the “financial industry sector that applies technology to improve financial activities” – Schueffel, Patrick (March 9, 2017). “Taming the Beast: A Scientific Definition of Fintech“.
FinTech is an area in high expansion because financial institutions must leverage technology to stay relevant, open new opportunities for their customers and themselves, and foster customer loyalty in today’s digital age. On the one hand, people give easy access for granted, as well as convenience, efficiency, and speed. They perform transactions via mobile technology platforms and applications daily and at any time, including managing their finances. On the other, banks want to reduce the execution time of their processes to be efficient and productive, such as cross-border payments or settlement of securities for stocks and bonds. Moreover, they need their operations to be highly secure, cater to the threats in the digital area, and adapt to legal regulations.
Fintech also includes developing and using cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Even though blockchain, the technology behind cryptocurrencies, is very convenient for other purposes, such as supply chain traceability.
With the development of the ABCD technologies – Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud and Data Analytics -, FinTech had the wind at its back, and the sector is advancing slowly but surely to a high digitalization. As you know, the financial industry is highly regulated, and governments take their time to change the regulations that affect them.
In this section, you will find posts that discuss the technologies applied in FinTech, several aspects of architecting them and use cases. In any case, the discussion always orbits around data, its storage, integration and use.
