In Mathematics, a vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction, but not position. I.e., it is a representation of data points in a multidimensional space. E.g., velocity and acceleration. A scalar is an ordinary number with no direction.

Thus, in Artificial Intelligence, vectors are arrays (or lists) of numbers, with each number representing a specific feature or attribute of the data. That’s to say, a vector is a mathematical point that represents data in a format that AI algorithms can understand. In this context, vectors are also called embeddings.
